Alberta has designated Public Land use Zones (PLUZ's) where off-road vehicles are allowed to ride. These area's have trail maps available on the Alberta PLUZ site.

Within 30 minutes from Calgary's city limits. McLean Creek OHV PLUZ is open from May 1 to November 30 and is one of Calgary's closest riding areas.
As of May 15, 2017, CSA-compliant helmets must be worn by OHV users when riding on public land. Public land means Crown land, including areas that have been designated for public OHV use, public roadway and highway rights-of-way.
